Jürg Luterbacher
Justus Liebig University Giessen

Prof. Jürg Luterbacher is Chair of Climatology, Climate Dynamics and Climate Change at Justus Liebig University Giessen and an internationally recognised climate scientist. His research spans paleoclimate reconstruction, climate variability, extreme events and Earth system dynamics across historical and future timescales. He previously served as Director of Science and Innovation and Chief Scientist at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), contributing to global climate science coordination and policy interfaces. Jürg also coordinates the MedEWSA project and his expertise in climate dynamics and interdisciplinary Earth system research provides TerraDT with strategic insight into improving the scientific robustness and long-term relevance of Earth system digital twins. His work is especially relevant for understanding climate extremes and supporting actionable adaptation knowledge.
